Wednesday the 30th of November marked the original deadline for company directors to register for a Director ID number with the ABRS.
The commissioner of taxation and registrar of the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS), Chris Jordan, confirmed on Wednesday that the deadline to apply will now be extended 14 days to allow for extra time for company directors to apply. The new date to apply by is the 14th December 2022.
The ATO will adopt what he is calling a “pragmatic compliance approach” as long as these directors apply for their Director ID in the next fortnight.
It will be welcome news for those directors who are yet to submit their application form, given the maximum criminal penalty for not having a Director ID number is set at $13,200. Civil penalties can be as high as $1.1 million.
